Department Philosophy: The district’s overarching philosophy toward physical education is for students to experience and understand the short-term and long-term benefits of a physical activity to motivate them to be lifelong movers. Complementary to this philosophy is our fundamental departmental belief that a strong physical education program must promote inclusion, appropriately challenge students physically and mentally and embrace problem solving through cooperation and teamwork. The basis of this belief comes from our K-12 Project Adventure curriculum. In the elementary grades, these values are accomplished through manipulative (throwing, catching, sticking, etc), locomotor (running, skipping, hopping, etc) and non-locomotor (twisting, balancing, extending, etc) skills developed as an individual and in cooperative groups.
"Of all subjects taught in school, Physical Education is the only subject which, by the very nature of its content, has the potential to affect how a person will feel every moment of every day for the rest of his or her life"....Allen Russell
